Teen Programs

Hartford PAL recognizes the importance of offering programs customized to meet the needs of our teens in an effort to empower each of them with the life skills needed to become productive citizens.

Youth Empowerment to Success Program

A program to empower teen youth with positive growth and development within themselves, their community. This program will educate youth on actions/reactions to police encounters, conflict resolution, importance of career goal setting and community involvement. This program promotes active mentoring, individual leadership, team building and self-awareness. This is an 8-10 week program depending on the session and meets once a week.

PAL Boxing Program

This program runs off-site out of our Boxing gym located at 1055 Broad Street in Hartford. The program runs at different times during the week depending on need based scheduling. For 2014, the boxing program is currently running on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 – 7:30 pm by Certified USA Boxing Coach Officer Mena, volunteer or officers and civilians. The boxing program exists for the purposes of recreation and also has the ability to train youth for amateur boxing matches through USA Boxing.

Summer Youth Employment

Hartford PAL partners with The Center for Latino Progress and Capital Workforce Partners to employ our teen youth every summer. This collaborative allows PAL youth to remain in our programs and affords them the opportunity to transition to becoming mentors and facilitators for the PAL’s younger population.

Hartford Police Explorers, POST 45

We encourage all members of PAL to become HPE which is under the same division within the Hartford Police Department as PAL. Youth are presented with this opportunity at the age of 13 years old (requirement) as it works to formulate a youth’s work ethic, professionalism and integrity. HPE is stepping stone within the discipline of the law enforcement field. The Explorers meets every Sunday at PAL Headquarters and other dates for special events and training. A PAL Youth Application is required for all Teen Programs and the acceptance to each program is based on the individual program’s maximum occupancy.
